Description

Female friends describe me as a gentleman, playful, sensual, and funny. (I've occasionally been called "a goof" but nobody's perfect.) They tell me that I'm easy to talk to and that our conversations are engaging.

I grew up in MA, summers in Cape Cod, then one tour USN and 45 years on the West Coast. Now Leland, NC since Dec 2021.

Things I enjoy

Holding hands or arm-in-arm and strolling pretty much anywhere

A very occasional restaurant with someone special. Especially if quiet or live music or great ambiance.

Occasional partner dancing, or free style dancing in a pinch. (I have 12 years experience in about 10 styles, though winding down.)

I exercise almost daily between walking, swimming, and the gym.

Watching an occasional school-age children's sports event or play.

I get the urge to visit somewhere with warm, swimmable water for a couple months in the winter. Also to visit the mountains for a week.

I tend to go to the beach in the early morning (if I'm living right there) or just a few hours before sunset for lower UV, on calm days so I can swim. I also enjoy walking the beach and sitting for a while.

Study and project time. Psychology, philosophy, economics, history, software, writing. I'm really a home body for these activities, outside of daily exercise, a little bit of socializing, and very occasional travel.

Things I don't gravitate toward on my own

I'm not a regular, passive recreator for things like restaurants and shows, professional or college sports. If I attend a live music venue, I'll want to dance.

Fun facts

Retired. Formerly senior chemical engineer and engineering manager for Hewlett-Packard, then senior software engineer for HP and a couple startups.

Married once for 34 years. Divorced since 2014. Low baggage.

Politically I'm a classical liberal, which means I have the same values as our founding fathers: individual liberty, limited government, free markets. (Think moderate libertarian, opposite of contemporary, progressive liberal.)

I have a significant Catholic and Protestant background though more spiritual than religious. Well educated in world religions.

Two self-sufficient children, one married. Two grand daughters.

I'm looking for...

A partner in communication, exercise, adventure, and intimacy

Moderately athletic. Slim to medium build. (No preference shaming!)

You're lighthearted and playful.

You like a simple life.

You're comfortably retired or financially on track for same.

Close proximity is a strong plus.

Personality, character, and that elusive chemistry, are critical, and probably mitigate some of my other preferences.

Herpes HSV-2. Minor outbreaks but I have it. I only mention this to attract same, or someone who's completely OK with it.

I've come to realize that really good chemistry in both directions is very rare. If we decide to get to know each other, let's make it easy. I'll be open and honest along the way, like I am right now.

I won't meet in person if I don't have any idea what you look like. To that end, if not already provided, I might ask for straight forward, current photos.
